Property Description
Fortuna's Independent Hotel for California's Redwood CoastThe majestic north coast redwoods, the many state parks, six wild and scenic rivers, miles of pristine, rugged California coastline, and an “avenue ruled by giants”; these are some of the reasons that bring you here.Craft and organic breweries, Victorian towns and seafronts, festivals and entertainment, all with a quirky, independent spirit; these are the things that keep you coming back. With these in mind, The Redwood offers a strong sense of place, reflecting that same independent spirit. Ideally located in sunny Fortuna, we are the perfect base camp to visit the California redwood coast. This connection to our area guides our hospitality. However, we are not only a team of Humboldt insiders enthusiastic about sharing this special place, we also take care of it. As a certified GreenLeader hotel we clean our comfy rooms chemical free, our bath amenities are spa-grade and eco-friendly, and every stay comes with a buffet breakfast that satisfies the lumberjack (or the treehugger) What can you expect from Fortuna's independent hotel? You can expect a small scale hotel that left the corporate, franchise environment to offer an experience with a proud sense of place. You can expect a hotel that is evolving as we make decisions that are aligned with Humboldt County's rich heritage and history. You can expect a little of the "un-expected".Located off US 101 in an area with traveler services, The Redwood seeks to be your one-of-a-kind choice amongst the small grouping of franchise hotels, restaurants, and gas stations in Fortuna. Steps from this small grouping of businesses are the final miles of Eel River, before it reaches the Pacific. Our central location serves as the ideal base camp to visit the many state parks and enjoy other outdoor activities in Humboldt County. The Humboldt County experience continues when you arrive at The Redwood.Murals in the lobby, pool area and stairwells offer insight into Humboldt's topography, ancient forests, lumber camps and the daily life of the Native American Weott tribe.A vintage kayak, rods and reels, and Jeff's grandfather's flies on display give a nod to the Eel River only 200 feet behind the hotel. You can follow it along the levy trail for a few miles, also known as the Riverwalk.A cowhide print area rug at the entrance reminds us of the local dairies and the cows found grazing nearby. The lobby wainscot is reclaimed redwood brought from a dismantled water tower just north of Arcata, a reference to the area's lumber industry and history.
