Green Sustainability
Margaritaville Resort Lake Tahoe - Environmental SustainabilityAs a mountain resort nestled in the beautiful High Sierra, Margaritaville Resort Lake Tahoe is proud to be one of the area’s leading hotels in environmental sustainability. Following are a few of our initiatives to reduce energy consumption and ease environmental impact:Digitally controlled thermostats use motion detectors and passive infra-red to control heating/cooling in all guest suites. Heating/cooling of meeting space is monitored via the internet. Only meeting rooms in use draw energy. When temperatures permit, we use Lake Tahoe’s fresh air to cool public spaces and meeting rooms instead of running A/C. We have removed over 200 light fixtures that provided unnecessary lighting throughout the Resort. All of our mechanical pumps are equipped with variable frequency drivers to conserve energy. Occupancy sensors have been installed in the fitness center, public bathrooms and all back of house offices and storage rooms. All departments recycle paper and cardboard. Through improved staff practices, total office paper consumption has been reduced by 70% All unused food products from our restaurant and banquet facilities are trucked offsite for soil composting. Styrofoam products have been replaced with corn/potato products which are then added to the compost. Used cooking oil is recycled for alternative fuels. Kitchen exhaust hoods shut off automatically when not in use. Common table salt is used in the pool and converted into sodium hypochlorite, which disinfects the pool. This is not only safe for the environment, but also for employees to handle. All storm run-off water is collected, filtered, and tested before leaving the property to run in to Lake Tahoe.
